Landscape Inspirations
This image stood out for me because it looks as if it were carefully composed to show a frozen lake in the mountain with snow. I really like the lighting in this image, it seems to be mid-day and the ice just reflects the sun so well. I don't like that that water bottle is not centered in the photo, although the angle it was shot at was interesting. I think I may try to take a similar photo for my landscape project. The mountain looks very clean in the water in the water bottle, and I think it is also a little ironic that the water in the lake is frozen, but the water in the bottle is not. I think that this was a very good piece of composition and while not being just "pretty" it may present a deeper meaning within the picture as well.

timeline reflection

This project was easy in some areas and difficult with other parts. Because I had partners, it was a little bit more complicated that others making everyone cooperate and creating a project that everyone would like. We decided that we wanted to create a timeline surrounding fashion photography, and that we had wanted to create a fashion walkway coordinating with our timeline. Janelle told me that she had just gotten into sewing, so we decided to add a rack of clothes with it. Creating the runway was the easy part. Researching and finding pictures that matched the dates was more difficult than I had originally thought but ultimately I did learn a lot from this experience. I liked this timeline most compared to timelines I have had to do in my life for other classes because with timeline, we were not held down by requirements. We were allowed to get creative with this project which motivated me to really express myself through this project.

This particular project was assigned to us to assess ourselves on the portrait reading. We then had to take our own photograph of a portrait using natural light. In this image I used my sister and wanted to capture her doing something natural, while still composing an image for photography. The light it coming from a ceiling window above her at around 1-3 in the afternoon, an observed time period when the sun shines in really hard in my home. This natural light enhances my photo and kind of gives a message of inspiration with the guitar. I had an old vase of dead roses which I thought would look really pretty in the background of the image. This lesson helped me learn what the difference between a snapshot and a portrait is. And I think as my first digital image, I did really well. Overall, I like it better than black and white photography and look forward to more projects in digital photography.

What is a portrait?

A portrait is an image that is all natural, intimate, and its not an image where you ask someone to pose, its in the moment. It is meant to capture a little of that person through the photograph. These photos focus more on faces, expressions, and emotions. As read in the article "It extends beyond the pictures," she points out. This shows that its all about the experience, learning about the person being photographing and hoping to capture a little bit of that person through the photo. A portrait connects with the model in a way that is not shot in other pictures. Again its not posed, as other photographs maybe, it is just an image captured in the moment.

Diversity in SCPA
The project assigned to me for my photography class was to capture an image that represented Diversity in SCPA using strobe. It was my first time so the experience was a little difficult. We have limited time and impatient models, so we were able to feel the pressure that real photographers experience when taking their photos as well. We ended up putting the strobe behind the models to create the look we had wanted. Accidentally, the strobe appeared in the final photo, which is a mistake Ill learn to avoid. The experience was good and I learned a lot. I feel like the meaning of the photo shows that differences are accepted at this school and that everyone can find their place, no matter how different they may be. Wednesday, March 10, 2010
With this project, I had a little fun experimenting with the brushes in photoshop. We were trying to create composition with the brushes. It was a good experience to have and though I may have had trouble with it, Im sure with time Ill get better at it. I think that these tools work best with fashion shots, as it emphasizes the model in the shot.
